What Our Girls Say

Maryam

Year 11, JLT

I’m beyond excited to be working with my fellow JLT members and the teachers to bring about positive change to our school to make it an even better, educational and supportive environment.

After the difficult years for many of us during the COVID pandemic, it really opened my eyes to how much I took social interactions for granted. Hence, I have been involved in multiple extracurricular clubs and groups (both academic and social) that Ricards generously offers, from Debate club to History HPQ club to POP and honestly, it has made my secondary school experience ten times more enjoyable.

As part of the SMSC team, I was able to take part in organising a successful ‘International Women’s Day’ event and I found it very empowering to learn and see diverse women who look like myself, women of colour, in big leadership roles. This has allowed many students to embrace their rich culture and unique identities, in and out of the classroom!

Ricards Lodge also offers the opportunity for students to take part in the extracurricular, DofE programme that is highly recognised across the country. For me, DofE was a challenging but undoubtedly great experience! Without the precious Google Maps to rescue us, we learnt to jump the hurdles (and the muddy puddles) that were in our way and in the end, we reached safe and sound. I’ve taken away courage and team working skills that I will never forget.

It goes without saying, this school and its great staff members have the strongest ability to help each student improve in any aspect with the support of their friends that they will make along the way but also the confidence which they are encouraged to develop within themselves.

I’m proud to be an Assistant Head Girl in a school that strives to help each and every one of us to achieve our potential and ultimately, become ‘successful women of the future’
