On December the 13th over a hundred performers from Year 7 to 13 brought Christmas cheer to us all in a fantastic evening of music.
The concert was sold out and we raised £500 for the music department and, as £1 from each ticket went to the #JustOneTree project, this means that 200 new trees will be planted to help combat climate change.
The quality of performances was outstanding and extremely diverse. The first half opened with the school orchestra who sounded tremendous, playing a range of festive classic. This was followed by several superb performances including Year 7 band, “The Late Mondayz”, Year 9 group “Vocal Diversions”, and fabulous solos from Hira and Lalima (Year 8), and Aaliyah and Marnie (from Year 10).
The Year 7 choir sang a beautiful rendition of “Do you hear what I hear” and the first half ended with a deeply moving performance that juxtaposed a new composition about climate change sung beautifully by the Senior Choir with a stunning rendition of a Rachmaninov Elegy for piano, played superbly by Mariia from Year 10. This section gave the audience time to reflect on the climate crisis and the evening’s cause.
The second half began with a complete contrast with a stunning rendition of All I want for Xmas sung by the Senior Choir and Band with Hira (Year 8) singing a sensational solo. This was followed by The Hedgehogs (Year 9) who brought tremendous cheer to the crowd with their version of Merry Xmas Everyone.
There were then a range of fabulous performances including a superb new song by Shreya (Year 11) called Xmas Night, a brilliantly confident performance from Callum (Year 12) and superb band performances from SATTN (Year 13) The Eclectics, Sam and her jazz trio and Lucy and her band (Year 12).
The evening culminated in all the Year 12 RR6 groups coming together to perform an epic version of Merry Xmas Everybody before the whole audience joined in with Jingle Bells to finish. We are extremely proud of everyone who performed and the Year 12 RR6 Music group who helped to organise and facilitate the whole evening.
