BTEC Level 2 First Award in Sport
The Edexcel BTEC Level 2 First Award in Sport is taught over 120 guided learning hours (GLH)
The course has core and optional specialist Units.
This is an excellent course for students who are interested in sport as a profession or working within the sports industry in professions including the police, fitness industry, sports coaching and leisure centre management.
Learners must complete two core units, and a choice of optional units. The BTEC First Award has units that are assessed at school as well as an external assessment.
The course will be delivered practically and coursework will be submitted throughout the year. Students can be assessed orally and through observation and presentation work. There is an external assessment which is taken in school time.
As part of the Unit 6 Leading Sports Activities students will work with local primary schools and Year 7 groups delivering sports activities and running partnership events. Students will also gain leadership qualifications and attend regular outside agency programmes. These have included the Sky Sports for Living Programme, Rugby Football Union Coaching, England Netball Association Young Leaders umpiring course, London Youth Rowing Club and YMCA Zumba. Students will gain an increased understanding of the fitness and leisure industry programmes.
Students will progress to the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Sport in RR6. In RR6 students will visit local leisure fitness industry programmes including the Wimbledon Squash Club. Students will also coach younger students in the school and develop their skills, qualities and responsibilities as a leader.
